Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion – Sunday, 28th March 2010
...

The week ahead, known to us as Holy Week, is the most important time of the whole year for us as Christians to grow in a knowledge of what our faith is about. Unfortunately it has increasingly become a time of heading to the sun for so many people. During this week we are put in touch with the reality of Christ’s death on the Cross for us and the wonderful knowledge of his Resurrection from the dead. We are also put in touch with the reality of the human condition that can change so quickly from enthusiasm to hatred as on Palm/Passion Sunday or from love to cowardice as on Holy Thursday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are particularly important for us to give time to prayer and reflection that are provided for in the various liturgies. The Church is greatly weakened when people don’t give this time. Will you?

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

First Reading : Isaiah 50: 4-7
The prophet suffers in carrying out his mission, but is confident that God will vindicate him.

Second Reading: Philippians 2: 6-11
Because Jesus took on himself our human condition and accepted death on a cross,
the Father has made him Lord of heaven and earth.

Gospel: Luke 22: 14-23:56
Luke’s version of the Passion Story. As in the rest of his Gospel, so in his account of the Passion,
Luke presents a Christ who is merciful and forgiving even to his executioners.

Easter Sunday

Masses: 10.30am; 12.30pm

Holy Week and Easter are the most important times in the Church year. Possibly your Lent never got off the ground or maybe you failed in your resolutions at an early stage. Why not make the extra effort during this week to come to daily Mass or make some special sacrifice. May the Lord bless all those who attended Mass in such great numbers all during Lent.

Anyone who has not been using envelopes and who would like to receive a box should leave their name in the sacristy. Anyone who pays income tax, even those who are retired but who receive a taxable pension, and who would like to consider being part of the Gift Aid Scheme by using an envelope, which is of a tremendous benefit to the Parish, should contact the Parish Office on 71383777 for more information.
