Accord Derry

Accord Derry will hold Marriage Preparation Workshops (Pre-Marriage Courses) on 24/25 September and 22/23 October in the Thornhill Centre, Culmore Road, Derry. The course will run from 6.45pm to 10.00pm on Friday and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday. To book a place contact Rosemary on 71362475 (Monday - Thursday 9.30am - 1.30pm).

 


Strabane Community Project,

St. Patrick’s Hall provides a daily luncheon club with activities Monday - Friday. You can also have your meal delivered to your home in our new microwaveable containers. SPRED Group

Do you have two hours a week to give to the SPRED Group in the Parish? The work of SPRED is to encourage and facilitate growth in faith and spiritual development in people with special needs in the Parish. The only requirement to become a member of the group is an open and loving heart. The best way to experience the work of SPRED is to come and observe one of the sessions and then decide if it is something you would like to be involved in. St Mary’s Church Choir

St Mary’s Church, Melmount Strabane.

Aims: To provide sacred music for the liturgical functions associated with the church.

Activities: Weekly choir practice in St Colman’s High School.

Melmount Folk Group

Aims: To provide liturgical music at Mass or any other sacred celebrations.

The group sing each week at the vigil Mass on Saturday evening and rehearsals take place on a fortnightly basis.

 

Legion of Mary

Melmount Centre, Strabane

Aims: To bring spiritual help to members and to those they visit.

Activities: Visiting the sick; lonely; old; hospitals; homes; promotion of the rosary through circulation of the statue of Our Lady in the parish; book barrow for spiritual literature.

 

“SPRED” (Special Religious Education Division)

Melmount Centre, Strabane

Aims: Catechesis of the developmentally disabled

Activities: Spred is a diocesan network of parish based communities, whose primary aim is the faith development and parish integration of those with mild or severe learning difficulties (mentally handicapped). Also, it is an on-going adult faith development programme for those who volunteer to help.

 

Third Tyrone Scouting Ireland Group

Mr Charlie Brown

Aims: To contribute to the development of its members in achieving their full spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and cultural potential as individuals so that they may take a constructive place in society.

Activities: Exploring/compass work; mapping; orienteering; hiking; climbing; camp craft (rope work, tying, cooking, pioneering etc.); physical fitness and first aid training; communications; water activities; international camping.

 

St Vincent de Paul Society

Aims: To help members grow in the love of God and their neighbours through direct personal services to others.

Main Activities: Visitation, hospitals and Greenfield Home; personal visits; bus for elderly; outings and holidays for elderly; helping those in need.

 

Knights of St Columbanus

Aims: To encourage and develop Christian values in all things. To assist the bishops and parish priests if requested in the work of diocese or parish.

Activities: Interest and involvement in emigration advice; community development; alcohol and drug abuse; job discrimination.


“SEARCH” Youth Group

Termonbacca, Derry

Aims: For young people to meet regularly to pray and to share with each other their experiences of life. Getting to know about the opposite sex.

Activities: Drama, singing, discussion, spiritual reflection, youth Masses, social evenings, discos.

“Search” came to Ireland via America in 1985. To date 9,000-10,000 young people have taken part in the programme.
Search is for young adults ranging from 17-24 years of age.

 

Strabane Prayer Group

Day Chapel, Melmount

Aims: To foster shared prayer within the context of charismatic renewal and cultivate the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Activities: Prayer and praise; scripture sharing; teaching on the Christian way of life.

Melmount Ladies Guild

Melmount Ladies Guild is a group of ladies who meet every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in the Melmount Centre. Apart from meeting socially, they raise money for various charities. Every lady welcome.
