Accord is a voluntary agency of the Catholic Church providing services to couples preparing or seeking a deeper commitment within the sacrament of marriage. The Omagh Centre is seeking new members to train as facilitators. We are looking for people currently married 5 years in the Catholic Church or currently in a marriage recognised by the Catholic Church, have the ability to convey a positive attitude to marriage, have an openness and commitment to working with a Catholic organisation, relate easily to people, are able to be part of a team and are sensitive, warm, caring and accepting. An information evening will be held in Mount St. Columba Pastoral Centre, 48 Brook Street, Omagh on Tuesday 3 May at 8.00pm. Please feel free to come along, no commitment needed. For more information telephone 82242439.

Amalgamation of St. Mary’s Boys P.S. & St. Mary’s Girls P.S.

This is to keep you up to date on the proposed amalgamation of our two parish primary schools. As you know from our last correspondence, the school Trustees have requested a Development Proposal to go forward which will allow the two Primary Schools, St. Mary’s Boys P.S. and St. Mary’s Girls P.S. to merge in September 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Education Provision Committee of CCMS have agreed that the development proposal be forwarded to the Department of Education along with the necessary minor works needed to ensure that the school buildings can accommodate both boys and girls. The necessary documents are now being prepared for the Department of Education.

We have been informed that, because of circumstances beyond our control locally, all might not be in place for the amalgamation to take place in September 2011. The ‘as soon as possible thereafter’ date could well be January 2012, but as the staff of the schools, the governors and, I am sure, the parents would not want an amalgamation to take place in the middle of the school year as it would disrupt the children’s learning, it is now most likely that the merging of the schools will take place in September 2012. In the intervening time the staff of both schools will work together to make the transition period as smooth as possible.

If there are any further developments parents, governors, school staff and parishioners will be informed as soon as possible.
